Leah Pinot Noir - 2016 - Michael Seresin

New Zealand

SERESIN Michael

100% Pinot Noir from vines farmed biodynamically in the Marlborough appellation. Leah is the first name of Michael Seresin's daughter, and this cuvée is a different blend every year, made from a selection of several vineyards to achieve the best possible expression of Pinot. The 2016 vintage is 85% from of the Noa vineyard (alluvial soils) and 15% from the Raupo Creek vineyard in the Omaka Valley (limestone soils). The grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification: destemming, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, long post-fermentation maceration which gives the wine its elegance and structure. 11 months of maturation in French oak barrels.
Michael Seresin, child of the 1942 vintage, is a man leading two careers – in cinematography and wine – and excelling at both! Indeed, his filmography is impressive to say the least: Midnight Express, Homeboy, Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban... the list goes on and on. Born in New Zealand and very attached to his country, he became passionate about wine and gastronomy when he moved to Europe in 1966 to become an assistant cameraman. In 1992, he founded Seresin Estate with the aim of producing wines as naturally as possible without compromising on quality. And don’t be mistaken – viticulture is no simple hobby for Michael, who in just a couple decades has managed to earn international renown for his wines and his biodynamically farmed estate. Hats off to the artist!
