Domaine de l'Arlot

Clos du Chapeau - 2017 - Géraldine Godot

GODOT Géraldine

A cuvée of Pinot Noir from grapes selected specifically for their finesse, from vines cultivated biodynamically and planted in the village of Comblanchien, on soils of clay and limestone. The parcel, which covers 1.6 hectares, has the shape of a hat (chapeau in French) which gives the cuvée its name. The grapes were harvested by hand beginning on the 5th of September and resuming the 7th to 14th of September. Yields were limited to 35 hl/ha in order to enhance the Pinots’ aromatic palette. In the winery: the basic rules of winemaking at the estate are minimal use of vats, and to intervene wisely and as little as possible in the birth of the wine. Gentle extractions, manual punching of the cap, and limited pumping over are the rule. Fermentation is therefore done using indigenous yeasts, with gentle pressing, followed by 14 months of maturation in oak barrels, 10 to 15% of which are new.
Géraldine Godot has been the winemaker of Domaine de l'Arlot she succeeded Jacques Devauges in 2014. This Burgundy native, microbiologist, oenologist and graduate of the Jules Guyot Institute in Dijon is the leader of an impassioned, unified team, all driven by the desire to produce truly great wines that offer the most authentic expressions of the terroirs of Domaine de l’Arlot. The history of the Domaine goes back to the 18th century, when Jean-Charles Vienot had walls built around the Domaine de Premeaux-Prissey, thus founding the Clos. In 1891, the property was sold to a wine merchant, Jules Belin, who enlarged the estate with the purchase of Clos des Forêts Saint-Georges and Clos du Chapeau, which together would become the Domaine de l'Arlot. Today, this estate is synonymous with the sumptuous wines and climats of the Côte de Nuits, offering cuvées of great elegance that are the result of extremely precise work in the vineyard, with organic and biodynamic viticulture practiced here since 2000. A paragon of Pinot Noir, whose wines will age in your cellar exquisitely.
